Article by Fr. Sarath Maddenini, C.Ss.R.
I am Sarath Maddineni C.Ss.R. from the Province of Bangalore – India. I was born on January 5th, 1977, in the State of Andhra Pradesh in India. On June 8, 2000 I made my profession and was ordained on May 18th, 2005. After finishing a year of Pastoral in Bangalore, I went to Kenya in 2006. From 2006 to 2008, I was assisting at our Holy Redeemer Parish in Iruma and also going out to give seminars, retreats and orientation programmes in schools and colleges. In 2008 I became the Pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish until July 2011.
Kenya is a Mission; it started in 1990 and is part of Bangalore Province. We have two communities in Kenya. Holy Redeemer parish in Iruma which is also meant for our initial formation, and Formation House for Philosophy and Theology in Nairobi. The people of Kenya are very warm and welcoming and it is a beautiful country. Kenya is still a young mission which needs personnel and finances to run it. Thanks be to God we have six Kenyan Redemptorists who are ordained and seven Indians who are working in Kenya.
In order to support the mission we have let a few confreres work outside Kenya, like Fr. Joseph Horo, C.Ss.R. in Vancouver. He has been there a couple of times and I have been sent this year to work for a year in Grande Prairie. From the Mission of Kenya we are grateful to the Edmonton-Toronto Province for the opportunity to work with you and collaborate.
